A grimoire (/ɡrɪmˈwɑːr/ grim-WAHR) is a textbook of magic, typically including instructions on how to perform magical spells, how to create magical objects, charms and divination, and how to summon or invoke supernatural entities. Also known as a “book of spells.”

Forces of Nature: A Visual Grimoire is a collection of thirteen photographs intended to serve as a pictorial portal, transporting viewers to the liminal space that exists between nature and the supernatural.

The photographs, created with 35mm film, are of this world and yet they are otherworldly.

Each one is a spell, a charm, a divination. An invocation of the elements. A summoning of spirits. A bridge between realms.

Forces of Nature: A Visual Grimoire will be on exhibit at HABA Salon (212 E. Market St., Iowa City) throughout October 2020.
